About
Relax. Every kid gets there on their own clock. This is a short shelf of good books for the wait.
What's here
A page for each stage, from newborn to first reader. Each one has a handful of favorites, a stretch book for when they're ready for a little more, and a book just for you. Free help comes before anything with a price. There are no milestone charts or scores, nobody telling you your kid is behind, no sign-ups or pop-ups, and nothing from this site follows you around the internet.
The books
Books we love that librarians and parents keep recommending, most of them classics. A short list for each stage, plus a few free resources. When you buy through a link, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. More on that.
Where our data comes from
The library finder uses the Public Libraries Survey (fiscal year 2024) from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency, for each library's name, address, phone and location. ZIP code areas come from the U.S. Census Bureau. We refresh it when a new survey comes out.
